MobileinTent this Friday in Tijuana

A show of performance arts focused on borders and social divides

TIJUANA.-"MobileInTent" is a group of artists from Oakland, Berlin, and Guadalajara working on a project that combines investigative work with visual arts and map making in movement. The idea is to transform topics of interest such as borders, art, and ideas into works of art.

The project began in 2012 when the artist started to build tents housing groups of 3 to 30 people, which would travel to public spaces such as parking lots. There, they would create sculptures, videos, and other works of art mixed with performance art, depicting border lands, conversations, and music. The idea was to alter the perception and defy boundaries with their work.

"MobileInTent" is specicically interested in the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the way walls are used as structures of societal distribution. They are also interested in depicting the effects of small acts combined with extraordinary beauty, and how generosity along borders can change perceptions.

[p]Which is why they have arrived here, in Tijuana. They will attempt to travel in 2015 to Berlin and Mexico and create philosophical dialogue, and work alongside artists from Serbia, Egypt, and Mexico and engage in activities such as enjoying a cup of tea in the morning, or practicing yoga, trying food, and talking with people in these places.

This year, MobileinTent will travel throughout southeast U.S. and its northern border with Mexico.

On Friday, November 28 at 7:30pm, they will perform at Plaza Revolucion on Avenida Revolucion, between 3rd and 4th street. Suite 206, Zona Centro, Tijuana Baja California.
