Four murders push year total to 169 in Tijuana

Victims were shot to death at an eastside house

Tijuana.- Four people were shot to death, including two women, and a fifth wounded before dawn Monday at an eastside house, authorities announced.

Police received a call at 4:57 a.m. that indicated that people had been attacked at a house in the Niño Artillero neighborhood.

When officers arrived they found a man in the patio and a woman at the house’s entrance, both shot to death, according to the state Attorney General’s Office.

They found two other bodies inside, a man in the living room, and a woman in one of the bedrooms.

The victims, all adults, were identified as José Manuel Navarro Zaragoza, Alma Delia Urrutia Carrillo, Carlos Velásquez Zaragoza and Diana Esmeralda Godínez Rodríguez (no ages provided). They all had gunshot wounds.

Authorities said that another woman also was shot but survived and was taken to a hospital under police guard.

Monday’s deaths pushed the number of murders in Tijuana this month to 27, for a total of 169 so far this year, 80 fewer than in the same period last year.

Authorities did not announce a motive for Monday’s deadly attack, although they have attributed much of the deadly violence in the last five years to drug traffickers battling to control the border area.
