Winter festival for Central Village families

Neighborhood festivities geared for children

Families are invited to attend the 10th annual Central Village Winter Festival, which begins at 5 p.m. today (Dec. 7) in Logan Heights.

The free event is hosted by the Central Commercial District Revitalization Corporation, also known as the Central Village, and will feature a tree lighting ceremony at 25th Street and Imperial Avenue.

"It's a child-oriented. We'll serve baked goods and cider to guests," said Don Shuckett, the nonprofit's executive director.

The agency oversees the maintenance assessment district, which is supported by property owners in the area and provides clean up, trash removal and other services. The Central Village covers the neighborhoods of Sherman Heights, Logan Heights, Grant Hill, Memorial and Stockton.

The nonprofit received a $2,000 grant from county Supervisor Greg Cox to help organize the event.
