Baja police detain Bloods member wanted in murder

Suspect had been sought since 2007 in gang slaying

ENSENADA – State police agents captured on Tuesday an American gang member being sought in connection with a murder in Los Angeles, authorities announced.

The Baja California Public Security Department identified the man as Nathaniel Alexander Smith, 25, from San Diego. U.S. authorities told the department that he is a member of the Bloods and is a suspect in the murder of a Crips member in 2007.

An investigation by state police located Smith in Ensenada, where he was detained in the neighborhood of Carlos Pacheco.

His detention is the second in two weeks that American gang members have been captured in Baja California. On July 26, state police arrested two members of the Mongols biker gang in Tijuana, one of them on "America's Most Wanted" list.
