Four homicides reported in eastern Tijuana

Authorities report new wave of deadly violence

TIJUANA – Four homicides were reported by the authorities in a new wave of violence in the city’s east side.

Three homicides occurred Monday and one on Sunday, the Baja California Attorney General’s Office announced.

Officially, the agency has logged 364 murders in Tijuana this year through Tuesday, which is fewer than in previous years when drug cartels openly battled one another.

In an announcement, the agency said the body of a woman was found at 12:30 a.m. Monday inside a house in the Mariano Matamoros neighborhood. She was identified as Lidia Huerta Camarena, 37. She had been shot in the abdomen.

Three men were arrested as suspects in the murder, the municipal police department announced.

That same day, around 8:45 a.m., the body of a man was found in an empty lot in the industrial park La Joya. The decomposed body was wrapped in a blue blanket and had wounds to the head and neck, the state agency said.

Around 4:40 p.m., also Monday, a man was shot to death while sitting in the passenger seat of a Dodge Stratus. He was identified as Antonio Moreno Montiel, 54. The car was parked in front of a house in the Infonavit Cachanillas residential complex, the state agency said.

And on Sunday in the Urías neighborhood, around 4:10 a.m., authorities found the remains on the street of a body that had been burned. The victim has not been identified.
