One killed in shooting near border crossing

Tenant-landlord dispute erupted in violence

TIJUANA – A man was killed and two of his brothers wounded in a shootout at dawn Thursday in the area of small shops near the San Ysidro border crossing.

The municipal police department announced that the shooting stemmed from a conflict between

[p]tenants and their landlord that had been brewing for several days, although no details were given.

The dead man was identified as Josué Rentería Moreno, 33, who received four shots from a 9 mm gun, the department said in a release.

The wounded victims were identified as brothers Eleazar and Noé Rentería Moreno, 27 and 37, respectively, who received gunshot wounds. A fourth brother was also attacked, but was not injured.

The alleged shooter was detained by municipal police agents. He was identified as Alfonso López Lázaro, 36, the landlord who rented to the brothers.

Police said the shooting occurred at 4:30 a.m. in the area where arts and crafts are sold out of small shops near the San Ysidro port of entry.
