8 tons of drugs destroyed in Tijuana

They were seized in various operations

TIJUANA – Authorities incinerated Wednesday afternoon more than 8 tons of illegal drugs at a military facility in the city’s south side.

The drugs had been seized in various operations, said Fermín Gómez, the local representative of Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office.

The drugs that were incinerated before the news media were 16,652 pounds of marijuana, 64 pounds of methamphetamine, 33 pounds of cocaine, 8 grams of heroin, and eight marijuana plants, according to Mexico’s Defense Department.

The destruction of the drugs means that organized criminal groups will not be able to peddle them to consumers, said Gen. Gilberto Landeros, of the Second Military Zone.
