The Mexican Consulate in San Diego is inviting residents to nominate citizens of Mexico who have contributed to the local community for a special recognition.
The contributions may be in such areas as education, business, science, health, environment, culture, sports, and philanthropy.
Nominees can be born in Mexico or have Mexican roots and may be of any age, even have passed way, according to the consulate, which recently announced the recognition program. Nominations may be submitted by individuals or organizations.
The awards are being presented to mark the 150th anniversary of the historic Battle of Puebla.
Nominations may be submitted through May 31 to: Departamento de Asuntos Comunitarios, Consulado General de México in San Diego, 1549 India St., San Diego, CA 92101.
Supporting documents, such as press clippings, photos and other materials, may also be sent.
An independent selection committee will review the nominations and prepare a list of San Diegans who will be honored in September in a special ceremony.
The consulate will present an award to each person selected or to their families, in case the honoree has passed away.
