MEXICO.- Mexican authorities confirmed that "testing" conducted to discover the identity of the two men captured last Thursday by the Marine revealed that neither of them is an offspring of drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán as initially reported.

"After conducting the necessary examinations to know their identity, it has been determined that the two men presented yesterday (to the media) are Félix Beltrán León and Kevin Daniel Beltrán Ríos, 23 years old and 19 years old, respectively" stated the district's attorney.

"On the 21 of June members of the Secretary of Marine presented two people, one of which was thought could be Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar", he appointed.

For that reason, he added, the Attorney General's Office (Procuraduría General de la República, PGR) started an investigation for "his apparent responsibility in the offenses of criminal organization, possession of firearms exclusive to the Military, Marine and Air forces and the use of illegally acquired resources".

Without revealing any details about the detainees, after confirming their identity, the Dependency remarked that the investigation would allow to "corroborate the facts for which they were presented" to the Public Prosecution Office (Ministerio Público Federal, MPF).

A United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) source had already confirmed to the EFE Agency that the young man who was initially identified as the son of the Sinaloa's Cartel head leader was in fact Félix Beltrán León.

Félix Beltrán León "is one of the bosses who sell drugs for the son of "El Chapo" in Jalisco", stated the source who chose to remain in anonymity.

Hours before a woman who presented herself as Elodia León Vega before the Mexican press in the city of Guadalajara, had assured that the man who authorities were calling Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar was in fact her son Félix Beltrán León.

"He is being mistaken out of malice" she stated and then rejected any relationship with the drug leader's family in a press conference in which she was accompanied by her lawyer, Verónica González.

Both said that the 23 year old man arrested was born in Los Ángeles (USA) and is the half brother of the other detainee, Kevin Daniel Beltrán Ríos about who they didn't offer any details.
