"Ready Lane" to open in Tecate

Only during the Sundays of July and August for now

Authorities from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced the launch of a Ready Lane pilot program in Tecate's crossing border; it will operate during July and August, and only on Sundays .

The decision whether this entry port keeps the program or not will be based on the results it shows.

"The pilot program is to test if opening a Ready Lane is an effective way of managing traffic in that crossing point" said CBP's authorities on a press release.

The Ready Lane will function on Sundays starting next July 01 and until August 26 from noon until 8pm.

At the moment Customs' authorities use the commercial crossing lane during the weekend to deal with the traffic on rush hours increasing from two to four inspection lanes, a strategy that they will continue to use during the pilot's duration.

It was stated that they already have the required road signs to inform vehicles how to get to the Ready Lane.

People who will be able to cross using this way are those whose documents have the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system integrated such as Border Crossing Cards issued after 2008, the American passport (PASScard), the newest Permanent Resident card (Green Card) and the SENTRI card.

It is estimated that the inspection waiting time for vehicles on the Ready Lane is 20 seconds shorter than that of the regular lanes.

The Ready Lane program is already operating in entry points like San Ysidro and Otay where users are already habituated to the process and where, they assure, the waiting times are shorter.
