London 2012: Mexico gets silver on Synchronized Diving

Iván García and Germán Sánchez win first medal for Mexico

Mexico got its first reason to celebrate the 2012 Olympics when the duo formed by Iván García and Germán Sánchez won the silver medal in men's synchronized diving 10m platform (33 ft.).

The Mexican youngsters didn’t let their country down. With patience and serenity they climbed positions after being on the 8th place for the first two rounds.

The Aztec duet started their recovery after performing the dive with the highest difficulty in the competition; not even the Chinese competitors with their outstanding synchrony risked imitating the dive executed by the Mexican contestants.

With an inward 4 ½ somersault of a 4.1 degree of difficulty, the dream of winning a medal got closer. China, faithful to their competition style, did not let Mexico get close; the Mexican divers did not back down either, setting a 9-point distance from the US competitors who ended up taking the bronze award.

That is how the Mexican athletes delivered the first Olympic medal to their country. The honor comes from this couple of young men who are just 19 and 20 years old.

Iván García and Germán Sánchez have put Mexico on the medal list today. Mexico has smiled for the first time today and that smile shines of silver.
