"The Hobbit" is now a trilogy

Peter Jackson confirmed it via Facebook

This morning, director Peter Jackson confirmed through a Facebook release that "The Hobbit" production now includes another film making it a total of 3 more movies for "The Lord of the Rings" saga.

Originally, the story was going to be split in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" to be premiered on December 14 of 2012 and "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" scheduled to be released on December 13 of 2013.

Jackson stated in his release that after revising the first movie's first cut and part of the second one with screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, they decided to take the opportunity and show more of the story using the works of J.R.R. Tolkien "The Hobbit" and the appendixes of "The Lord of the Rings".

The film director ended his announcement citing Professor Tolkien when he said the film was "a tale that grew in the telling".

"The Hobbit" last installment will be released in the summer of 2014.
