Xolos announce Apertura home schedule changes

New dates for Atlas and San Luis matches, new time for Toluca game

Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles is in the midst of a busy schedule. It is not only four weeks into the Apertura regular season tournament. It is also competing in the Copa MX domestic tournament.

The Xolos travel to face Celaya FC Tuesday night in the second leg home-and-away series of the tournament featuring teams from the First and Second divisions. The schedule for that tournament is set with the Xolos hosting Celya FC Aug. 21 at Estadio Caliente, then travel to Mexico City to play Pumas Aug. 28. Tiuana finishes Copa MX group play at home Sept. 19 also against Pumas.

It is the Xolos’ Apertura tournament schedule that has changed. The club announced this week changes in dates and start times for three home matches.

The Sept. 21 Week 9 match against Atlas has been changed to Saturday Sept. 22 at 7:30 p.m. The Week 16 match against San Luis FC was moved from a Friday night to Saturday (Nov. 3) with also a 7:30 p.m. kickoff time.

The kickoff time for the match against Toluca originally set for Sunday Oct. 7 has been changed to 6 p.m.

All other matches keep their original date and start time.

The club’s administration announced the changes in a release stating that the moves were in response to fan request. Season ticket holders requested that the team considered a time change. Fans appeared to have a hard time getting to the stadium in time for 5:30 p.m. starts on a Friday afternoon. It has been reported that some fans needed to request the day off from work or be excused early to attend matches.

The Xolos last two home matches, one a 7:30 p.m kickoff and the other a 5:30 p.m start, were declared sellouts.
