Danger Alto Kalibre: Mexican Rap at its best

Outstanding Tijuana Hip Hop Artist and current national "Freestyle battles" champion

As he continues to share his enthusiasm for rap, Danger pulls out a cigarette and his fingers toys with it.

"My craft is to Rap when I'm out of my hometown, when I am in it, I'm an activist, creating programs for the youth of social integration and platforms for new talents in my environment which is the Hip Hop culture that consist in these elements: Rap, Graffiti, brake Dance and Dj. We work and give young people who are militants of this culture all the tools that these elements embrace, so that they can have a platform to express themselves."

The rapper has no trouble explaining who are his influences, "Well, unlike many artists also my influences are not in Hip Hop, nor are musical. My influences are writers, poets, dramatic writers, even movie makers, since I grow up reading books." And starts talking about his idols, "I'm a big fan of Garcia Marquez, Garcia Lorca, and painter Salvador Dali. They all transmitted an idea, that's the reason why my idols are artists of different branches. I could spend all day long, but we don't have the time to name them all, so we will just leave it at that."

In our videotaped interview with Danger, our questions meandered, as we were trying to address topics that wouldn't be usually included in a typical rappers interview. But Danger was a good sport; he talked fluently and with knowledge about graphic arts, literature, poetry, music, and social issues.

His new album "Lodo en la Alfombra" (Mud on the Carpet), the first one without his Alto Kalibre crew, will be released before the end of the year.

Don't forget to look for and learn about Danger, before what usually happens to talented people of this caliber that the next time you see or hear about him will not be in one of the Tijuana's alleys anymore, but through magazines, internet or national television.
