Boxing: Julio Cesar Chavez returns to the ring

It will be on ESPN sports

MIAMI.- The 6 time boxing world champion Julio Cesar Chavez, will be a guest commentator on the ESPN Latin-American sports channel of the new program "A Los Golpes"(to the punches), informed the television network today.

Chavez mentioned to Efe that on the show he will analyze the mistakes and advantages current boxers have in the sport today.

The ex-boxer with 105 victories in 112 matches, said he was very "happy and satisfied" of this opportunity to participate in the ESPN sports program, and to work alongside of the experts and journalists David Feitelson and Bernardo Osuna.

Chavez also said he still closely follows today's boxing world, especially through the career of his son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. who is now the ex-middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC).

The best boxer of the twentieth century as declared in Mexico will bring to the new ESPN program his experience and view of the sport, which in his opinion is that he is perfect for the "comment and criticism."

The Vice President of Production and Operations for ESPN International and Sports, Rodolfo Martinez, told Efe that boxing "offers great opportunities for analysis, and the reason for this is because boxing is more versatile than other sports for analysis. Here you can see every shot and see what happened in each 'round', and analyze what happened or any strategy changes," he said.

Martinez said that the incorporation of the ex-boxer is produced by the "friendly relationship" they had with Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., which they have been "working with for some time now", since the end of his career, and since he has been watching over his sons career.

"Having someone with the kind of career that Julio Caesar had, which includes not only the experience, but also the knowledge from within the boxing world is very important. We already have a very important group of experts in 'A Los Golpes', and with the incorporation of Julio Cesar to this group will solidify it even more", said Martinez.

About the program the director of ESPN said it will "analyze what happened in the biggest fights of the weekend", as well as a preview of the most prominent battles to be held until the next edition of "A Los Golpes".

The program is designed for the Hispanic audiences and boxing lovers, which will be produced from Los Angeles, and will have an interactive format through which viewers can participate and interact during the 30 minute broadcast.

The show will broadcast once a week on the Latin American ESPN sports channel.
