New information was revealed about the popular Operation Fast and the Furious; the latest report found that this very scandalous operation was a “deliberate strategy created at the highest levels of the Justice Department aimed at identifying the leaders of a major gun trafficking ring.”
Not long after Attorney General Eric Holder took office, arguments from congressional investigator sprung a long line of speeches talking about violence along de Southwest border.
The official operation opened in fall of 2009, after Holder entered office and a month later gave a speech about the dangers that the Mexican drug cartel represent but the spotlight was set on the Sinaloa’s cartel in particular. On Feb. 25, 2009, Holder said the drug cartels “are lucrative, they are violent, and they are operated with stunning planning and precision” and, under his leadership, he promised “these cartels will be destroyed.”
Last July, it was revealed that yes, the the main target of this operation gone wrong was this cartel, or most specifically his leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who by the way these past days has been making headlines again by a scandal that involves his daughter. Its main target was to arrest the drug lord and to discover the hiding place of the high power weapons.
On a 2,359 page report called “The Anatomy of a failed Operation: Pt. I & II”, republicans point out that “Fast and the Furious” came out of a new strategy implemented by Obama’s government to stop the trafficking of illegal arms in the US by Mexican drugs cartels. This is the first of three reports that will be delivered by the Supervision Committee, until now the special report that is being typed up by the General Department of Justice is still a secret.
During investigation hearing, republicans accused the Department of Justice of “criminal cover up” this caused Attorney General Eric Holder to be held in contempt last June.
