Barack Obama's controversial decision: Latin and Gay?

He nominates Judge Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro for a seat on a U.S. District Court

Judge Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro from Philadelphia has been nominated by President Obama to sit on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

If this nomination is approved by the U.S. Senate, then judge Quiñones who speaks about her sexual preference openly will become the first Latina to be appointed to serve at a Federal Court.

Quiñones is a woman who has a long history and career in law, which started in 1975 after she obtained her law degree from The University of Puerto Rico.

From 1979 -1991 she worked as an attorney advisor for the Department of Health & Human Services, and then after in 1991 she was nominated and elected for the Court of Common Pleas for the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania.

Quiñones is not the only person that Obama has nominated throughout his terms as president, who openly speak about their sexual preference, which now with Quiñones this number sums up to 8 that interestingly before he ever became president, only one person had been ever nominated who had openly spoken about their same sex preference.

Among the 8 nominees only 3 have already been confirmed, and the list includes Pamela Chen form New York, Michael McShane, and William Thomas who like Quiñones is only waiting on the decision of the voting committee to approve their nomination and award them their new positions in government.

As Obama nominated these individuals he said, "These men and women have had distinguished legal careers and I am honored to ask them to continue their work as judges on the federal bench, they will serve the American people with integrity and an unwavering commitment to justice."
