Thousands of German soccer fans sang Christmas carols

More than 22 thousand fanatics got together to sing

RIVERSIDE, CA.- In what could be soccer’s biggest Christmas traditions, team FC Union Berlin celebrated its annual tradition where more than 22,500 fans went to Stadion An der Alten Försterei to sing Christmas carols.

The stadium can barely hold 18,432 fans, but the supporters also went into the field to sing Christmas carols for more than 90 minutes while the team is on winter break.

The tradition started in 2003, when only 89 people showed up to sing to Union Berlin’s home, but the tradition started to grow and now is one of the most awaited events during the Christmas recess. Maybe the lack of soccer makes the fans go crazy and invent anything to get closer to their club.

The Union Berlin supporters are like nothing else in the world, they have sold their own blood in order to get the team get out of more than 1.5 million Euros of debt, and in 2008 they donated thousands of work hours to rebuild a part of the stadium.
