The ex-president of the San Diego City Council and current assembly member, Ben Hueso, announced today that he will be seeking a seat in the California Senate in the upcoming special elections on March 26, 2013.

So far, Hueso does not have an opponent yet, but if he does win the election, he will be taking over the position that was occupied by Sen. Juan Vargas, who also represents the border region and was sworn in as congressman yesterday.

Lorena Gonzalez, who is a union leader, also announced that she will be running in the elections to take Hueso’s place.
