Batmobile auctioned off for 4.2 million dollars

A fans dream come true

ARIZONA. - Rick Champagne, a man of 56 years of age from Phoenix, Arizona, fulfilled his dream of a life time yesterday afternoon by purchasing the original Batmobile for 4.6 million dollars.

The car was used in the television series of Batman during the 1960's, and was based on the 1955 Lincoln Futura that was manufactured in Italy by Ford. The vehicle is only able to transporter two people, in which this case it was Batman (actor Adam West) and Robin (Burt Ward actor).

The car’s original owner was George Barris, who bought it for a very low price and modified it to the T.V. series. Though this was a constant activity for Barris, this car was special and toured throughout the U.S. as part of an exhibit after the T.V. series and films that were produced.

Last year the Batmobile was exhibited in San Diego during Comic-Con alongside other vehicles used in the Dark Knight.

Barris decided it was time for the Batmobile to have a new owner, and for the first time ever put it on sale.
