Pumas 1-2 Xolos: Tijuana continues their winning streak

Goals by Richard Ruiz and Fernando Arce

MEXICO CITY. – Playing the game with just what they had, Club Tijuana continues their perfect streak by defeating Pumas UNAM 1-2, in Mexico’s Division One soccer league.

The match was played at the Olympic University Stadium in Mexico City, and was part of week 3 of the Liga MX Clausura 2013 tournament.

Here is how the match played out:

The game started with very little play action, but around the 11th minute mark Xolos started to get into a good rhythm where an offside call was made against them that was not valid.

The first goal was made at minute 28 of the game, where Alfredo Moreno took the ball from almost midfield, and dribbled it to the top of the goalie box where he filtered a pass to Richard Ruiz, who scored and celebrated a (0-1) special goal for his wife who is currently pregnant.

After the goal Xolos maintained control of the game, and Pumas would begin to attack offensively on occasions but posed no real threat.

Now during the second half of the match, Club Tijuana gained control of the ball and at minute 67 of the game, Fernando Arce took a shot at a free kick, where the Tijuana born player kicked a spectacular shot at goal that went over the wall of players of the opposing team, and headed towards the upper right corner of goal arch that was being defended by Alejandro Palacios.

Xolos were now up on the scoreboard as visitors (0-2).

Now with 2 minutes left to go in the game, Pumas decided to attack which resulted in an interesting play that would end up in a goal in their favor.

The goal was scored by Javier Cortes, who took a shot at goal and put the ball close to the right post of the arch which Cirilo Saucedo was not able to stop, and would put them now 1-2 on the scoreboard.

Pumas had a chance to tie the game with one last play from a corner kick, where even the goalie Alejandro Palacios abandoned his arch, and got close to Xolos goalie area for an opportunity to rebound that ball, but Pumas came up empty handed on the play.

Next week Xolos will be playing at home against Pachuca at Estadio Caliente at 5p.m. local time (PST).
