Cirilo Saucedo, first Xolos player on the National Team

He debuted in the second half of the game

PHOENIX, ARIZONA. - Cirilo Saucedo got his long awaited debut with the Mexican National Soccer team, when he jumped onto the field in the second half of the match against Denmark. The keeper, at 31 years of age also served as the first ambassador for the Xoloitzcuintles in the National team.

Minutes later, the arrival of Fernando Arce doubled the number of Club Tijuana’s representatives on the field. Previously, Joe Corona was the only player from Xolos to debut with the Mexican National team, but it was with the Under-22 Mexican national team, who then eventually ended joining the U.S. National team.

Corona, who also had the option to represent El Salvador, is one of three Xolos players (Greg Garza, Edgar Castillo) who have played for the Stars & Stripes squad since Tijuana ascended into the first division in 2011.

Club Tijuana has also contributed to various South American National teams; when their players like Dayro Moreno, Egidio Arevalo Pablo Cesar Aguilar and Fidel Martinez have been called on to defend the colors of their respective countries.

Cirilo Saucedo debuted after almost a twelve year career in the pros, and Fenando Arce, former Mexican national team member in his days with Atlante, Morelia and Santos Laguna, has now returned to the national team since his last appearance in June of 2009.
