Xolos’ Castillo on the US team versus Honduras

4 Club Tijuana’s players have been called so far to their national teams

TIJUANA, BC.- Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente defender, Edgar Castillo, was included on the United States Men’s National Team list of players who will take on Honduras this Wednesday.

The game will be played as part of the Final Hexagonal Qualification Round for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. This call now makes Castillo the fourth player from Club Tijuana to be selected for a national team, as previously Cirilo Saucedo and Fernando Arce were called to represent Mexico for the match against Jamaica, while Pablo César Aguilar was called to represent Paraguay against El Salvador on a friendly game.

The U.S. National team head coach, Jürgen Klinsmann, waited until 48 hours before the qualification match to present this list, after closing up the January camp in the Home Depot Center with players from the 2013 season from the Major League Soccer (MLS), and after deciding on the best elements that played against Canada on last week’s friendly game.

Castillo will share this call with Everton’s Tim Howard, Carlos Bocanegra from Racing Santander, Omar González from Los Angeles Galaxy, Jozy Altidore from AZ Alkmaar, Tottenham Hotspur’s Clint Dempsey and Herculez Gomez from Mexican side Santos Laguna.

Xolos’ player Joe Corona was not called on this occasion, even though the player has been a regular starter for Xoloitzcuintles; he will have to wait until next time for a chance to be called to represent the US.
