Marquez rejects 5th fight against Pacquiao

"I'm not interested in a fifth fight"

In an interview with Record magazine, Juan Manuel Marquez said that he was not interested in facing Manny Pacquiao in the boxing ring again.

Marquez defeated Pacquiao in Las Vegas on December 8, 2012, and as a result of Manny's defeat, he was suspended temporarily for medical reasons, but the rumors about a fifth fight that would possibly be arranged for September 2013 between these two fighters have been on going.

"Regarding the fifth fight against Pacquiao, there is nothing left to it and I'm not interested in doing it, there's no point because I already cleared any doubts and I accomplished my objective. The most important thing is that I finished this in the most positive manner for me, and I don't think that the fans are interested in a rematch between us," said Juan Manuel Marquez.

Marquez always considered that the fourth fight was the best opportunity he had to prove that he was better than Pacquiao, and since it was announced, Marquez said that his objective in that match was to win by knockout, a prediction that came true with only 2 seconds to go in the sixth round of that fight.

"When he gave me that opportunity, Manny Pacquiao also gave it to himself because he wanted to win and make it very clear as well. Besides, I won that right for a rematch throughout the 3 previous fights," added Marquez.

During the interview, Juan Manuel Marquez said that he was in great physical condition despite being now 40 years old, and clarified any rumors of him retiring anytime soon.
