The President of the Electoral Power in Venezuela, Tibisay Lucena, said on Saturday that it would be on Sunday and Monday when parties can nominate their candidates, who will then have from April 2 to 11 to promote their presidential campaign.

On Friday March 8, Nicolas Maduro took office as President in the premises of the National Assembly in memory of Hugo Chavez. Soon after, he requested an immediate presidential election as stipulated in Article 233 of the Venezuelan Constitution.

Henrique Capriles will again be the presidential candidate for the Democratic Unity Party, and on the other hand, Nicolas Maduro will be the presidential candidate for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela who was also selected by Hugo Chavez to continue his legacy. They will register today to compete.

Venezuelans have again in their hands the opportunity for a change after having been ruled by Hugo Chavez since February 2, 1999 until last week, when he died of cancer before swearing in for his third presidential term.

In October 2012, Chavez defeated Henrique Capriles in the presidential election by a margin of nearly 10% in the difference of votes.
