JOHHANESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA.- Carlos Lopez was the hero of the day as he conducted the Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente U17 squad to beat Everton from England 4-3 via penalty kicks, after tying 1-1 in regular time in the final fo the 2013 Future Champions Gauteng tournament in South Africa.

The championship is played every year in Brazil and South Africa to let the Young Squads from many different clubs have international experience against teams from England, Brazil, Portugal, and others.

"Congratulations U17 Xolos for the championship obtained at Johannesburg. These kids are making history in this club," said Club Tijuana's starting player Fernando Arce via Twitter.

The game

On Saturday the players were presented in the Soweto neighborhood in the capital city of Johannesburg, to try to beat the English team Everton.

Xolos was able to hold onto the ball for most of the match and the English team would only defend itself, but at the 19th minute in the only offensive play by Everton, a good pass would end up headed to the net by Callum Connolly putting things 0-1 in favor of the Europeans.

Tijuana continued pressing but was not able to decipher the defense of the rival.

During the second half, after a first half with a duration of 30 minutes according to the rule book, the scoreboard showed the minute 49th at the same time when Rene Flores attacked using the right wing looking for his teammates.

He wasn't able to find any, but he found a space and ended up with a long shot from the left corner of the rival's area to the farthest post of the Everton goal to score and put the game now 1-1.

This would oblige both teams to go to penalty kicks where goalkeeper Carlos Lopez would be the hero stopping the ball in 3 occasions.

Now on sudden death Lopez would stop a shot by Everton and Oscar Gonzales would be in charge of taking the winning penalty to close the scoreboard 4-3 in favor of Xolos.

The Mexican youngsters will come back to Tijuana right away as they will travel tonight to Mexican lands.
