151 people arrested for bribing officers in Tijuana

Trying to eradicate corruption with authorities

The Ministry for Public Safety in Tijuana has arrested 151 people so far in 2013, for attempting to bribe police officers in the city.

Here are a few of the most outstanding arrests:

Marcos Rafael Toscano Rodriguez, 27 years old, alleged marijuana dealer in the Northern part of the down town area was arrested and tried offer military soldiers 900 pesos ($75 USD) so that they can "help him out and continue working." Jose Eduardo Rodriguez Serra, 24, was stopped for driving a vehicle with tinted windows and speeding through boulevard Aranjuez in Villa Fontana. To try to get rid of receiving the citation, he offered a "reward" of 300 pesos ($25 USD) to officers. Finally, in an old highway to Tecate, officers arrested Gilberto Bojorquez Arredondo, 40, for disorderly conduct and trying to bribe them with 100 pesos ($8.50 USD) so that they could let him continue on his way.

These facts speak of the great efforts made by the local government of trying to eradicate corruption with authorities. Currently, there have been a few operations conducted to clean their department from these bad "elements."

According to some representatives of the Ministry for Public Safety, due better working conditions for these officers, it is now more difficult for them to jeopardize their job by accepting such bribes.
