Nearly 34 million Mexicans in the United States

19% are undocumented

As part of the Mexican heritage for "Cinco de Mayo" (May 5), the U.S. Census Bureau has now revealed new data about the Mexicans who are residing in the United States. In this report, Mexicans who were born in Mexico and those of Mexican descent are all part of this new figure.

The study revealed that the average age in this population is about 26 years, which indicated that many of the "new Mexicans" were working and / or studying. Now on the other hand, only about 65% of Mexicans who were born in the United States enjoyed other benefits as a U.S. citizen. In contrast, only 1.65 million Mexican-Americans held a bachelor, master or doctorate degree. For many, this now painted a very different cultural landscape than any previous stereotypes.

Most Mexican-Americans reside in California and Texas with rates of 12 and 8.6 million respectively. And because of the age range in the study, it suggests that Mexican-Americans are more familiar with the way of life in the United States instead of Mexico.

In regards to the family, the Census showed that most Mexican-American families are made up of four members on an average. Only 75% of those in the study said that they spoke both English and Spanish at home, and another 34% admitted of not knowing how to speak English. The study also found that a family of Mexican origin receives just over $ 38,000 per year vs. $50,000 dollars per year on the average household income in the U.S. population.

In recent years, the number of migrants crossing the border has declined due to the strict controls, violence and the abuses against them. Thus both the Mexican as well as the rest of other Latin-American populations have grown within the United States, and have evolved from generations from illegal and legal residence.

It is believed that at least 11 million immigrants will benefit from the immigration reform, and from this figure, 59% (6.4 million) are of Mexican origin. This figure was released by the Department of Homeland Security, which also showed that the groups that follow right after Mexicans were that of Salvadorians, Guatemalans, Hondurans and the Chinese.
