87% of immigrants will apply for U.S citizenship

They "have deep roots in the U.S. with strong family and social ties"

According to a survey that was conducted by Latino Decisions, 87% of undocumented Latino immigrants will apply for U.S. citizenship if an immigration reform is approved and allows for it.

Undocumented immigrants "have deep roots in the U.S. with strong family and social ties with American citizens," which shows that they are very "integrated" in the social fabric of the United States, said the survey.

Latino Decisions surveyed more than 400 people, who admitted to not being U.S. citizens, have legal residency, or having any type of visa or documents that allow for them to be or live in the country legally. Also, 85% of the people who were surveyed said that they had at least one family member who was a U.S. citizen.

The survey also revealed that 95% of those who were surveyed; admitted to having one family member that was either a U.S. citizen, legal resident or some other sort of legal status without specifying.

Out of the 77% who responded to have immigrated to the United States for a specific reason, 39 % said to have immigrated in search for "a better job and economic future", while the other 38% said they immigrated for "a better life for their family and kids."

Two thirds of the respondents were "more optimistic" that this time an immigration reform will pass, which 87 percent said that "if the law changed and opens a process that would allow them to eventually apply for citizenship", they will solicit for it.

The survey found that a quarter of immigrants entered the United States under the age of 18, and 81% before reaching the age of 30, which is the reason for a very young population.

The survey was conducted between March 4 and March 29 at the request of the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (NALEO) and America's Voice Education Fund. The margin of error of this survey is that of 4.9 percentage points.
