River Plate in Argentina interested in Fidel Martinez

Could he leave Xolos?

The legendary Argentine club, River Plate is looking to strenghthen their squad for next season and return to the top parts of the table. They have kept a close eye on Xolos' Fidel Martinez who could become the star signing for the 'Millonarios' in Argentina.

Based on information coming out of Martinez's home country Ecuador that has made the way to Argentina Martinez would be the number one option for River if Rodrigo Mora returns to Benfica in Portugal. Fans in Buenos Aires are already excited at the possibility of having Martinez in the club.

For now there are no official conversations between the clubs or between River Plate and Fidel Martinez. Martinez is still under contract with the Xolos for the next four years.

Fidel stated in "Rumba Deportiva" an Ecuadorian radio program the he is not aware of any interest by River Plate or any other club for that matter.

"I haven't heard anything. I would never shut the door prematurely to anyone if the possibilities arise. And if they do it would be because of my hard work and dedication. But for now all I am concentrated on is my team, Tijuana." said the Ecuadorian forward.

River Plate will be looking to hold on to their player Rodrigo Mora. They have set aside plenty of cash to offer Mora to stay. But if Mora does end up leaving to Benfica in Portugal, the Argentine club will be willing to spend that capital in bringing in a replacement for Mora. Martinez would be an ideal fit for the Argentines.

Also rumored in the possibilities for Mora's replacement is Javier 'Conejito' Saviola and Ignacio Scoco. River Plate will not be shy in their finances when it comes after these players.
