Obama asks for foreigners not to be rejected

Asked for everyone to maintain the "spirit of diversity"

U.S. President Barack Obama yesterday invoked again the "American spirit" by asking for citizens to continue keeping "intact" and "faith in others," after the arrest on Friday of one of the co-authors of the attacks in Boston.

In his weekly radio and Internet broadcast, which was recorded before the arrest but released yesterday, Obama praised the determination of the American people and the ability of the citizens of Boston to avoid feeling terrified.

Obama appeared briefly and made a statement on Friday night minutes after the arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, who along with his brother Tamerlan, allegedly planned the attacks on Monday.

The president asked for people to maintain the "spirit of diversity" that characterizes the United States and avoid the hasty judgments.

"It's important that we continue welcoming people from around the world. The American spirit includes staying true to the diversity that makes us strong. Make sure we keep that spirit," said the president.

The Republican Senator, Charles Grassley, on Friday morning asked for an unhurried reflection on the immigration reform in the U.S., due to the uncertainties that arise -in his view- like the terrorist attack and the events in Boston these past few days.
