Mexican band members killed

They were on their way home

At least ten members of a band were killed and five others injured in a collision in northern Mexico, officials said.

The musicians of the band La Reyna de Monterrey (The Queen of Monterrey) were killed on a highway close to the U.S-Mexico border that connects the Mexican city of Monterrey to Laredo, Texas.

According to sources from the Federal Highway Police, who was quoted by the online newspaper El Norte, the band was on their way back home to Monterrey after performing at a show in Laredo.

The television network Milenio reported that the accident occurred when the driver of the vehicle in which the band members were traveling in, fell asleep at the wheel, drove into the opposite lane and collided with a tractor-trailer.
