California’s measure to seize firearms

This law received a green light and an urgent implementation status

LOS ANGELES. - California Governor Jerry Brown today signed a law that will exercise more control over firearms owners in this state, where it is estimated that more than 20,000 people are considered dangerous or mentally unstable and are in possession of handguns and assault weapons.

The SB-140 will provide 24 million dollars to the Department of Justice to hire more agents, and start operations in locating these individuals and seize their weapons, something that until now could not be done due to lack of funds.

"Every day the list of people banned from having guns in California grows from 15-20," indicates the description in the body of this law which today received the green light and an urgent implementation status that could achieve solid results by March 1 , 2015.

It is believed that there are about 20,000 people that at one time met the requirements for possessing firearms, but over time, they have become citizens that pose a threat to public safety and who have not had their weapon seized.

Currently it is estimated that in California there are 39,000 handguns and 1,670 assault weapons in the hands of individuals who pose a threat to the population.
