He refused to pay a $1,200 dollar bar tab

MEXICO. - Authorities in Mexico City arrested two men for their alleged role in the murder of Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of Malcolm X, while two others still remain at large, said the Federal District Attorney, Rodolfo Fernando Rios.

Rios in a press conference said that the detainees, David Hernandez Cruz and Manuel Alejandro Perez, were two waiters from the bar The Palace Club, which is located in the Plaza Garibaldi.

Both men were brought before the criminal courts of the capital's Eastern Prison on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

David Hernandez Cruz and Manuel Alejandro Perez are accused of participating in the beating of Malcolm Shabazz who refused to pay a bar tab that amounted to about $1,200 dollars last Thursday morning.

According to the investigations, Shabazz along with another person whom the prosecutor did not identify because he is a victim in this case, were in the bar accompanied by two women and drinking alcoholic beverages until at 3a.m. Mexico City local time in this establishment until employees "demanded payment of a bill that amounted to $ 1,200."

"The victims did not agree with the amount of the bill and failure to reach an agreement, it led to the beating of Shabazz who was "found on a street adjacent to the bar," said the prosecutor.

Shabazz died hours later at a hospital in Mexico City to "as result of the trauma caused by a heavy object," said Rios.

The prosecutor indicated that U.S. diplomats will now be in charge of the proceedings of the repatriation of the body of Shabazz, given that his family will not travel to Mexico to claim it.
