Atletico Mineiro will face Club Tijuana in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores fresh from winning a championship in Brazil. Mineiro won the regional championship Minas Gerais over Cruzeiro
The team led by former World Cup winner Ronaldinho got to lift the trophy at home in spite of losing the game 2-1 to Cruzeiro, thanks to the 3-0 win during the first leg of the final at Estadio Independencia de Belo Horizonte.
Dagoberto converted two penalty kicks for Cruzeiro in the first half, but Ronaldinho converted a penalty of his own in the 78th minute.
The game ended with Mineiros Luan red card for a harsh foul over Cruzeiros goal scorer Dagoberto.
Atletico Mineiro will now travel to Tijuana to face the Xolos in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores next Thursday night at the Estadio Caliente. The return leg will be on Thursday May 30 at the Mineirao de Belo Horizonte.
