New Liga MX Champions will come out of Mexico City

Another Mexico City derby, this time to decide the Liga MX Champion.

Another Mexico City derby is in store for Mexican soccer. After the Club America vs Pumas UNAM quarterfinal now we'll have a Club America vs Cruz Azul final to decide the new champion in the Liga MX.

Two of the considered "big four" will be fighting for the crown. Club America will be looking to tie Chivas of Guadalajara with eleven league titles, while Cruz Azul will be looking to close the gap by winning it's ninth.

America is has reached this stage by beating fellow Mexico City rivals Pumas UNAM in the quarterfinals and by beating newly crown three time CONCACAF champions Monterrey in the semifinal.

Cruz Azul barely survived Morelia in the quarterfinals and completely crushed Santos Laguna in the semifinals to reach the league final. For over 45 minutes in the second leg against Morelia, Cruz Azul were one goal away from elimination and Morelia kept piling on the pressure. The Michuacanos were just unable to finish the chances they created.

The first leg will take place at the Estadio Azul on Thursday night 9:00PM local time (7:00PM pacific). The return leg will be at the Estadio Azteca on Sunday night 8:00PM local time (6:00PM pacific)

Important side note: The away goal rule that has been in place for the quarterfinals and semifinals stage will no longer apply in the final. If the aggregate score is still tied after both matches there will be two 15 minute halves of extra time, and if still tied a penalty shoot-out will decide the champion.
