Tijuana Shines at LéaLA

This was only a sample of what this city has to offer

In the last edition of the Spanish Book Fair "LéaLA", the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture (IMAC) offered various activities such as books, music and exhibitions related to Tijuana, with the intention of showing the best of the city and invite Angelinos to visit the region.

Among the highlights at the start of LéaLA was the book "Tijuana", which was presented at this event and tells the history of this border city. This book's authors are David Piñera, a researcher at the Institute of Historical Research from the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC), and Gabriel Rivera, coordinator of the Historical Archive of Tijuana.

This book was also recently published by the IMAC.

During the presentation, Piñera explained the origin of the city, its dark legend, the ups and downs as a society and the story of a modern city that is thriving in the economy, culture and education. And also highlighting the important moments of this city's history.

On this same day Alvaro Montaño welcomed the audience with his book "Welcome to Tijuana", where he shows the city in its current state, and as a place where many artists and athletes have come from, who now have been featured at a national and international level.

In the artistic presentations, Reynaldo Silva played a repertoire of Mexican music, which included boleros and ballads like "Besame Mucho", among other pieces. Also the group "El Son de Tijuana" interpreted some songs from the Mexican state of Veracruz, as a sign of multiculturalism of the city, and the presentation of the Barrel Organ, unique in this region.

During these three days there were some galleries from Museum of History and the Historical Archive of Tijuana, which put together the exhibition "Tijuana, postales de una ciudad fronteriza" (Tijuana, postcards from a border city), which gathered 40 images of old postcards of the city.

This was only a sample of what the IMAC offers the community and the attractions that can be found in the city of Tijuana.
