Lanes at the U.S.-Mexico border will temporarily close

This measure will be in effect throughout the month of June

This week, several lanes that lead into Mexico at the San Ysidro checkpoint and El Chaparral were closed down.

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) made an announcement of the installation of an awning over several southbound lanes on Interstate 5 (I-5) in San Ysidro, with the purpose to provide greater security and protection for U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel.

This construction project will require temporary and partial closure of 3-4 lanes that head south towards Mexico on Interstate 5. The closure of these lanes is scheduled to be between June 3, 2013 and June 30, 2013, from Monday to Thursday 9pm-5am.

Lanes will reopen at 5am every day.

Interstate 5 (I-5) will be open throughout this construction time period, in order for motorists to still be able to cross into Mexico.

All motorists are being advised to visit the GSA’s official website for more up-to-date information on any changes regarding the U.S.-Mexico border.
