Consuls from the U.S. and Canada visit Children’s Hospital in Tijuana

A way to give back to the community

Next, we got to see the operating rooms and recovery areas, but for medical safety reasons, we did not have full access to the operating rooms, but we did get to go to the recovery area. Also, all of the patients at this hospital do not stay overnight. If anyone requires more extensive attention, they are then treated in other hospitals.

The tour ended in the new building, which at the moment is a small wing of the Shriner's foundation (where children who suffer from burns will be treated), and a cardiology clinic.

The wing of the Shriner's Hospital in this building is temporary, since this space is being planned to be used as clinic and pharmacy that will help thousands of children more.

The work done by the Children’s Hospital of the Californias is one that is characterized as unselfish and for social benefit. Most people who come and work here, including physicians, do it as a way to give back to the community. The ways that the hospital receives any type of funds are though the low costs of consultations, the annual collection/fundraiser and donations. This is how this hospital has survived for many years.

The next step for this hospital is to be able to have children stay overnight and be treated longer, and also more space where more children and adolescents could receive medical attention.
