165 immigrants kidnapped by Mexican Cartel

Most of the victims are from Central America

On June 4th Mexican authorities rescued 165 people in the northern state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, in which 151 of them were immigrants from Central America.

It is presumed that the victims had been deprived of their freedom for several weeks, and are now receiving medical care. This is a common practice by some criminal cartels, who after kidnapping people; they then ask their family members for high ransoms.

The Mexican Army performed the rescue operation on June 4, after receiving an anonymous tip in the municipality of Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, where after arriving at the home, they found Juan Cortez Arrez trying to escape while being armed.

"Mexican army troops found at this address a group of 165 people of different nationalities, including seven children, who were kidnapped by armed individuals and were deprived of their freedom", said Undersecretary for Media Regulation of the Ministry of the Interior, Eduardo Sanchez Hernandez.

Juan Cortez Arrez, 20, was taken to the prosecutors processing center to be investigated for his involvement in the kidnappings. It was not revealed which criminal group he belongs to, and so far is the only one who is being held responsible for this crime.

All of these foreigners have now been handed over to the National Migration Institute for their repatriation process.
