Bob Filner’s proposal for a binational incubator

It is about exploring the best ideas

The Mayor of San Diego, Bob Filner, has introduced an initiative to create a binational business incubator: The San Diego Incubator for Civic Imagination and Neighborhood Initiatives.

This measure is intended to unite the efforts of the government and citizens to create various improvements on both sides of the border, and making the most out of all the physical and human resources to obtain maximum benefits.

The initiative is a model that has been successfully adopted in various cities like Medellin, Copenhagen and Portland, where an incubator has become a source of jobs and has transformed ideas into reality. It is about exploring the best ideas.

For now, various projects are being worked on for if and when this initiative is approved. Among the projects are the proposal for the 2024 Olympic Games in San Diego and Tijuana, a multipurpose hall that will offer courses to the community, government transparency citizen forums, reading groups, technology labs, the improvement of public spaces , dining options, and councils for faster border crossing times, among others.

It is noteworthy that this initiative includes joining forces with the community in Tijuana in each of the ideas that would be supported.

Entrepreneurs will have the support of the local government from San Diego, as well as aid from the state government, federal government, private sector, and from non-governmental organizations and educational institutions. It is expected that the results will benefit the environmental and socioeconomic sectors.
