Tijuana and San Diego echo in Germany

Food and fun are just part of what Tijuana has to offer

The German newspaper "Zeit", has written an article that speaks about the revolution that is being lived at the border between Tijuana and San Diego, and the growth that this Mexican city has undergone, including the impact that the immigration reform, promoted by President Barack Obama, has had.

In the first few paragraphs of the article, it talks about the setbacks that the immigration reform has suffered, and compares the "old" and "new" Tijuana. The article also clearly highlights that this is not a place where foreigners come to cause havoc or destroy.

Since the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States, along with the long waiting times to cross from Mexico to the United States, coupled with a terrible wave of violence, Tijuana showed its worst days.

It was then when the citizens decided to risk it all for their city, and thus a new era was born that slowly drew the world's attention. The city was full of life again filled with new places to visit, bars, art events and international cuisines giving way to the "Baja-Med" kitchen, which showed that love, could transform a whole city.

Food and fun are just part of what Tijuana has to offer. Now, this border region has also become a benchmark for technological development in Mexico. Here, companies manufacture medical equipment, drones and electronic devices that show that this is a land of endless opportunities.

One of the keys to the continued success and rise of this city in a global scale, are the ties it shares with the city of San Diego. In the article, it stresses the importance of these two cities joining efforts that will ultimately produce good results of both sides of the border, which this idea is not far off, as the administrations of Bob Filner and Carlos Bustamante, mayors of San Diego and Tijuana, have worked hard towards this effort.

Bidding for the Olympic Games, a binational affairs office in Tijuana, and now the initiative for a binational business incubator, is all steps that have been taken to reach the goal.

Finally, the author refers to the new phenomenon of migration, where it was observed that even though some Mexicans are still trying to cross into the United States, there are also those who are already there and who are choosing to return to Mexico.
