Nurse from the U.S. forced to kidnap young girl in Tijuana

She is still being detained

Natalia Hernandez, 8, went missing yesterday around 5p.m., and her picture immediately began to circulate through social networks. Early reports indicated that she was on her way back to her parent’s ice cream shop, which was located in a Soriana shopping center in Tijuana.

As two photos of Natalia circulated through many social networks, there were of course many people who thought that this was just a bad joke (due to the fact that it has happened before), but this time that was not the case.

Fortunately, the girl is now already at home with her parents. Authorities found her sedated at a nurse’s home who was been identified as Blanca Estella Smith Tema, 47, and who also works in the United States.

Smith turned out to be a friend of the family of the young girl, who took the child to her house and hid her there with the intention of crossing her into the United States. All because two men demanded her to do so, because they wanted to collect a ransom of $10,000 dollars in order to return the girl.

Smith is still currently being detained in Tijuana, but has not been formally charged, while investigations in this case continue.
