17-year-old teen from the U.S. arrested in Tijuana

He promised to get them across border for $3,000 dollars each

Tijuana, BC. - Joshua Van Den Oever, 17, and who is a U.S. citizen was arrested on Thursday by Municipal Police officers in Tijuana, near the San Ysidro border crossing, and was sent to the federal prosecutors office for human trafficking and forgery of documents, allegedly.

This situation came about when an anonymous tip was made to the Central Radio Command Center around 5:10 p.m. (PST), which indicated that near the Sentri Lane, near the Colonia Federal neighborhood, four people were heading towards the border in an attempt to cross illegally into the U.S.

Joshua Van Den Oever was allegedly leading two men and a Mexican woman, who he provided fake identification documents with and promised to cross into the United States for a fee of $3,000 dollars each.

After officers located the group, they then interrogated Joshua, who his "customers" identified as the person who was guiding them through. The subject identified himself with a passport issued by the U.S. government and the others, driver's licenses, visas to enter the U.S., all which were provided to them by Oever with names of other people on them.

By order of the municipal judge, Joshua became was turned over to federal authorities, along with the other three migrants, who were not charged but instead taken in as witnesses.
