Three brothers from Mexico sentenced to death in Malaysia

They were caught during a police raid

The court hearing for three brothers from Mexico, who were sentenced to death in Malaysia for drug trafficking, was postponed today in the Court of Appeals until August 14, informed sources of the defense.

"We were ready to file appeals, but unfortunately the prosecutor was unable to attend due to illness and sent his apologies.'s Hearing was postponed until August 14 of this year," said to Efe, Kitson Foong, one of the lawyers for the three Mexican brothers.

Brothers Jose Regino, Luis and Simon Gonzalez Villarreal were sentenced on May 17, 2012 to death by hanging by the High Court of Malaysia, after being convicted of drug trafficking.

Since their arrest, the defendants have said they are innocent and testified that they were only cleaning the warehouse where they were caught during a police raid in which the drug was found.

Malaysian criminal law considers drug trafficking a serious offense for which the death penalty is applied, which in this Asian country, it is carried out by hanging without applying any type of sedative.

The brothers originally from the state of Sinaloa were arrested by the police along with two other defendants in a warehouse in Johor Baru, a port city bordering Singapore, which other materials were found that are used to make methamphetamine. One third of these "materials" have disappeared from storage while it has been kept in police custody.
