After winning a robotics competition in 2012, Esmeralda Rodriguez, a young woman from Mexico, was invited by NASA to be part of the "Mars 2020" project, but it was an offer she turned down.

Just a few days ago, there were various media sources that gave this news, but said that she had rejected the invitation because she was getting married. Reason why she was widely criticized by many people, including the president of DIF division in the state of Veracruz and the first lady of this same state, Karie Macias de Duarte.

Esmeralda responded to this by commenting on her Facebook page: "I am saddened that a false comment like this one can degrade a person", a publication that she deleted moments later.

In a press conference with various sources of media, Esmeralda said that the real reason for her turning down this invitation was due to the lack of financial resources that she needed to go, and that she was already married, she has been married since September with Nahum Isai Sanchez Salazar
