Less wait time at the U.S.-Mexico border is near

This strategy will begin in August

As one of the efforts to improve the relationship between California and Baja California, an announcement was made yesterday by Juan Tintos Funcke, head director of the Secretariat for Tourism, that during the month of August there will be a reduction in waiting times to cross the San Ysidro checkpoint, which for this, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection will have 25 more booths with dual inspections.

It is expected that these measures will be of great benefit to the tourism sector in Baja California, as recent efforts have been focused on improving the perception of the status of Southern California to have more visitors in the region, but the issue with the international border crossings remained one of the reasons of why tourists would come to visit Baja California.

Now that the General Services Administration (GSA) completes the construction of the new booths, the checkpoint will be able to operate to its full capacity on regular days and holidays.

Previously, some tests were already performed of the effects of having more booths installed to reduce the waiting time, which produced excellent results for both sides of the border.
