Mexico vs Canada: Stop humiliating yourselves Mexico

Mexico will be looking for an obligatory win against Canada.

SEATTLE – The obligation is no longer a debate, Mexico needs to win to ease some of the pressure off of itself and it's manager Jose Manuel "Chepo" de la Torre. In spite of what "Chepo" says in press conferences the pressure is and obligation are starting to weigh on him, and the best thing he can do is to get Mexico into the next round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup; for which the game against Canada is of great importance.

Canada is the perfect opportunity for Mexico to turn things around; they have no superstar player to worry about, and seem to stuck in the depths of CONCACAF. The only bit of hope of improvement is that the Canadian players have a chance to play in the MLS. But there is still a world of difference between Mexico and a team like Canada who did not qualify to the final hexagonal for a chance to go to the World Cup.

The majority of the Canadian players play in the MLS without anyone really being a key player for their club; or in the lower European leagues. The best known player from this squad is Julian de Guzman, a former teammate of Mexican winger Andres Guardado at Deportivo La Coruña.

There are plenty of statistics between these two teams from previous encounters that mean little to nothing. Like the 2000 edition of the Gold Cup when Mexico was in a similar bad situation with Enrique Meza as the manager, and the Canadians manage to beat Mexico and advance to the Gold Cup semifinals.

Mexico will need to fix a lot of things in regards to the last game against Panama. Players like Israel Jimenez, Alejandro Castro, and Rafael Marquez-Lugo, did not have a good performance and might end up on the bench.

This game will be of great importance for Mexico and their hopes of continuing in this Gold Cup. In spite of the two best third places advancing, going through to the next round behind Panama, Canada, or Martinique would be a huge blow to the Mexican pride.

Possible Lineups:

Canada: Milan Borjan; David Edgar, Doneil Henry, Voluntad Johnson, Marcel de Jong; Julian de Guzman, Nik Ledgerwood, Russell Teibert, Samuel Piette; Marcus Haber and Tosaint Ricketts

Mexico; Jonathan Orozco; Israel Jimenez, Leobardo Lopez, Joel Huiqui, Adrián Aldrete; Marco Fabian, Jorge Enriquez, Carlos Peña, Efrain Velarde; Rafael Marquez Lugo and Raul Jiménez.
