CONNECTICUT - In the final group game of the Gold Cup the United States Mens National Team (USMNT) will face off against Costa Rica. Both sides won their opening two matches and will be looking to make it three out of three in group stage games.
The match is scheduled for Tueday July 16 at 10:30PM local time (7:30PM pacific) at Rentchler Field in the state of Connecticut.
It is not expected that USMNT coach Jurgan Klinsmann will rest his best players because there will be several days rest before the start of the quarterfinals round. Theyll have to go out there with the best squad possible if they want to avoid any surprices from Costa Rica like the one Cuba nearly gave them when the Cubans took the lead in the last match.
USMNT were able to come back from the one goal deficit with goals from Landon Donovan via penalty kick that Xolos Edgar Castillo won. Xolos midfielder Joe Corona gave USMNT the lead in the second half by scoring his first ever senior national team goal, and the top goal scorer at the moment Chris Wondolowski put in the other two.
Costa Rica assured themselves a spot in the quarterfinals by beating Belize 1-0 on a Belize own goal. Previously the Costa Rican team had beat Cuba 3-0. Costa Rica can advance through as the group C winners only by a win against the USMNT, a draw or a loss would send Costa Rica through as the second place finishers in the group.
Possible Lineups:
USMNT- Nick Rimando, Edgar Castillo, Oguchi Onyewu, Tony Beltran, Michael Orozco, Kyle Beckerman, Joe Corona, DaMarcus Beasley, Stuart Holden, Landon Donovan, Chris Wondolowski
Costa Rica- Patrick Pemberton, Michael Umaña, Júnior Díaz, Carlos Johnson, Giancarlo Gonzáalez, Celso Borges, Michael Rojas, Ariel Araya, Kenny Cunningham, Jairo Ovando, Alvaro Saborio
