New Ready Lane pedestrian checkpoint at the U.S.-Mexico Border

Faster border crossings starting in August

Starting in August, eight new kiosks will be place at the San Ysidro border that will function as a "ready lane" pedestrian checkpoint, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).This new access point will be in operations 24 hours a day for anyone that has documents with RFID technology.

"At CBP, we are committed to continuing to find ways to make our border safer and more efficient," said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations in San Diego.

Flores also stated that about 30% of those who cross the San Ysidro checkpoint lanes use "ready lane", and that about another 25,000 use the pedestrian crossings daily.

July 21 is the date that the construction of these new kiosks will begin, but construction crews will work at nighttime, so that it does not affect travelers or customs personnel.
